“Ink System Failure” or “Power System Problem” Error Message Displayed
Resolving an Error Failure of the inking system Where Fuel system problem. The troubleshooting procedure varies depending on the type of ink cartridge used by your printer. Identify your cartridge type for steps to resolve the problem.

Follow the steps below in the order listed. Use the printer after each job to check if the problem has been resolved.
Resetting the printer
Reset the printer to correct some faults or errors.
- If your printer has a rechargeable battery then you should remove it.
- With the printer on, then unplug the power cord.
- Unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to an AC outlet, then to the printer.
- Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
REMARK : HP recommends that you plug the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Clean the air vents on the ink cartridges
Residual label glue or debris on the ink cartridge vent may cause an error. Follow the steps:
- Open the cartridge access door or cover. Before continuing, wait until the print carriage is stationary.
- Press the tab on a cartridge and pull it out of its slot.
- If an orange tab is still on the cartridge then you should remove it.
- Use a pin or paper clip to remove any debris or excess adhesive from the vent on the top of the cartridge.
- Reinsert the cartridge into the corresponding colored slot, and then press it down until it clicks into place.
- Repeat the above steps to clean the vent for the other cartridges.
WARNING : Do not leave cartridges outside the printer for more than 30 minutes. Otherwise, the printer and cartridges could be damaged.
Replacing all ink cartridges
- Install a set of new cartridges to resolve some ink system errors. For best results, replace all cartridges with genuine HP cartridges. To find your cartridge number and purchase HP ink supplies. Go to the HP Store or a local reseller.
- Open the cartridge access door or cover. Before continuing, wait until the print carriage is stationary.
- Remove the cartridge, and then insert the new cartridge into its slot.
- Repeat these steps to replace the cartridges.

Check if the printhead is replaceable
If the ink cartridge carriage has a latch then order a replacement printhead.
Open the cartridge access door or cover. Before continuing, wait until the print carriage is stationary. Locate the latch on the carriage.
If there is no latch, the printhead is not replaceable.

- If your printer uses four ink cartridges, search for CN643A .
- If your printer uses five ink cartridges, search for CN642A .
- Follow the instructions to order the printhead.
- Install the new printhead. If the problem persists, have the device repaired.
